Non-contact radar level transmitters determine material levels by emitting microwave pulses from an antenna towards the surface, which reflect back to the sensor. The device calculates the "time of flight" (distance = speed of light × time / 2) to determine the distance to the medium, allowing for accurate, maintenance-free, continuous measurement in harsh conditions.

Guided Wave Radar (GWR), operates on the principle of Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR). The transmitter sends high-frequency microwave pulses down a probe or rod (waveguide) inserted into the process medium. When these pulses reach the material surface, they reflect back to the sensor. The device measures this round-trip "time-of-flight" to calculate the exact distance to the surface
